I included a smart camera because monitoring is a vital part of senior care. As dogs age and become more prone to sudden mobility issues or disorientation, being able to check in visually can prevent a small problem from becoming a crisis. It bridges the gap between independence and safety, allowing you to oversee your dog’s well-being without constantly hovering over them.

How I use it

I use two different cameras to cover different needs, which provides great flexibility. One is a centrally installed, wired camera with pan-and-tilt features that I can control from my phone to scan the main living area. The second is a battery-operated, portable camera with a magnetic base. Because it’s cordless, I can move it anywhere—I often stick it to a metal bench or the BBQ leg when Maya is outside, so I can keep an eye on her from the kitchen while she enjoys the yard.

Why I recommend it

I recommend a Wi-Fi camera because it provides real-time visual data on whether your dog is resting, pacing, or needing help. It gives you incredible peace of mind when you have to leave them alone. While we don’t take advantage of the two-way audio to talk to our deaf Maya, I’m sure many owners would find this feature useful for comforting their dogs from a distance.
