Cushioned shelf liner for slippery floors
Why this product is in the Depot
I included cushioned shelf liners as a versatile and affordable traction solution. Unlike yoga mats, which can be too thick or crumble under nails, these non-adhesive liners provide a durable, low-profile grip. They are a perfect supplement to rugs for providing steady footing in tight or oddly shaped areas where a standard runner won’t fit.
How I use it
In our home, these act as the “on-ramps” and connectors to Maya’s rug highway. Because they can be easily cut to any size, I use them in weirdly shaped corners where she needs extra traction. They are also my go-to for travel and car rides; I place them on top of her rigid car hammock to ensure she doesn’t slide around during turns or stops.
Why I recommend it
I recommend them because they are incredibly customizable and low-profile, meaning they won’t become a tripping hazard. They are much easier to “spot clean” than a carpet and are light enough to throw into a bag for travel. They give senior dogs that extra bit of confidence in areas you might not have considered, like the space between the bed and the door or inside a vehicle.
Considerations
-
Durability: While effective, these do wear out over time, especially in high-traffic areas. Keep an eye on the texture and replace them once the “grip” starts to smooth out.
-
Non-Adhesive: Choose the non-adhesive version so you can move them around without leaving a sticky residue on your hardwood or tile floors.
-
Cleaning: These are great for quick wipes and spot cleaning, but unlike the rugs, they generally don’t survive a trip through the washing machine, so they are best for “dry” areas of the home.
