Pillowcase

A body pillowcase transforms into a lightweight, on-the-go lifting sling, allowing you to comfortably support your dog’s hind end whether they are recovering from a procedure, navigating uneven terrain, or simply needing a little extra stability during physical therapy and daily exercise.

Body pillowcase for hind support

Why this product is in the Depot

I included the body pillowcase because it is the ultimate “emergency” or lightweight mobility tool. It provides a wide, soft surface area that supports a dog’s underbelly and hindquarters without the pressure points or pinching that thin towels or straps can cause. It’s an accessible way to offer stability during recovery or specialized exercise.

How I use it

When Maya experienced vestibular syndrome at age 14, she lost much of her coordination (which she has since recovered from). I used a body pillowcase as a gentle sling to help her move around safely while she regained her balance. Nowadays, I still use it during certain physiotherapy sessions; it allows us to challenge her with new movements or exercises while providing a “safety net” so she feels secure and supported.

Why I recommend it

I recommend this because it’s a lightweight, portable alternative to a heavy harness. It’s perfect for those moments when a dog needs just a little bit of extra “lift” or confidence-boosting stability rather than full weight-bearing support. Plus, it’s easy to wash, folds up small for travel, and most people already have one at home or can find one easily.

Considerations

  • Dog Size: This “DIY” sling is best suited for medium to large dogs, as its is long enough to wrap comfortably under the dog and be held by the handles at your hip height, saving your own back from strain. For small or toy breeds, the fabric will be too bulky to fit comfortably between their legs, and a standard hand towel or a specialized small harness would be a better fit.

  • Proper Positioning: Always place the sling under the strongest part of the abdomen, just in front of the hind legs, ensuring you aren’t putting direct pressure on the bladder or sensitive areas.

  • Material Choice: Look for cotton or a non-slip fabric; avoid “silky” cases as they may slide against the dog’s fur.
