Elevated bowl stand – tilted with adjustable height

Why this product is in the Depot

I included this adjustable stand because mealtime ergonomics are crucial for senior dogs. Stooping too low can put significant strain on an aging neck and spine, and can even cause a dog to lose their balance if their front legs are forced to splay out. A tilted, elevated stand promotes a more natural, upright posture, making eating and drinking a much more comfortable experience.

How I use it

I introduced this to Maya when she was nearly 16. It ensures she doesn’t have to crane her neck down to reach her food or water. It’s particularly helpful for promoting good posture—though I have to admit, it’s mostly for when she’s standing up! If she’s having a “princess meal” where she chooses to eat while lying down, we adjust our approach, but for her regular standing breaks, this stand is perfect.

Why I recommend it

I recommend a model that is tilted and height-adjustable. The tilt is a game-changer as it brings the food closer to the dog’s mouth, reducing the effort needed to lap up water or grab kibble. It’s a simple environmental adjustment that yields immediate results in your dog’s comfort and digestive alignment.

Considerations

    • Bowl Sizing Hack: The bowls that came with this stand were a bit too small for Maya’s needs. To fix this, I simply place her regular, larger bowls inside the ones provided. This not only fits her appetite but also allows the stand to hold a larger volume of water even with the tilt.

    • Proper Height: Adjust the stand so the top of the bowl is roughly level with your dog’s lower chest. You want them to have a neutral neck position, neither reaching up nor looking down.

    • Non-Slip Base: Look for a stand with rubber feet so it doesn’t slide away while your dog is eating, which could cause them to lose their footing on the “rug highway.”
