Natural rubber waterproof boots

Why this product is in the Depot

I included Pawz boots because they serve a dual purpose: weather protection and medical hygiene. Foot care is vital for aging dogs—their paws are their foundation. As arthritis changes their gait, it can put unusual stress on their toes and nails, making them more prone to injuries or infections. Having a lightweight, waterproof barrier is essential for keeping a vulnerable paw clean without adding bulk.

How I use it

I bought a box of these in the fall of 2025 when Maya was 16 to help keep an infected nailbed clean and dry during our walks. They were the only thing that effectively kept the moisture and dirt out while she was healing. They can be tricky to put on, especially when new, but I discovered a trick: stretch the boot opening over a short cylinder (like a piece of PVC pipe or a ring of duct tape). You then place the paw through the cylinder into the outstretched boot and slide the cylinder off. It makes the process much smoother!

Why I recommend it

I recommend Pawz because they provide a “natural” feel that helps seniors maintain their balance. Many older dogs find heavy boots disorienting, but since these are thin rubber, the dog can still feel the texture of the ground. They are an affordable, practical tool to keep in your dog’s “pharmacy” kit for managing minor injuries or protecting paws on damp days.

Considerations

  • Sizing is Key: These must be snug enough to stay on but not so tight that they cut off circulation. Check the sizing chart carefully and consider using two different sizes for front and back paws if that would provide the best fit.

  • Temporary Use Only: Because rubber doesn’t breathe, these should only be worn for walks or short periods outdoors. They should be removed once the dog is back inside to allow the skin to breathe.

  • Keep them Accessible: Since they are small and lightweight, keep a few in your walking bag or car so you’re always prepared for a sudden rainstorm or a split nail.
