Action alert: Euthanasia at home in Abitibi-Témiscamingue
In Abitibi, at-home euthanasia is hampered by current supervision requirements from the Québec Order of Veterinarians (OMVQ). With our regional veterinarians already stretched thin in clinics, it is nearly impossible for them to leave their practices for hours at a time to visit a home. Professionals like the team at Vet & Cie are ready and willing to act, but they—along with other technicians specifically trained in compassionate end-of-life care—need the green light from the Order. We are calling on the OMVQ to authorize the delegation of this act to these qualified professionals, even when a veterinarian cannot be physically present. Help us advocate for our senior dogs and local solutions. Fill out the form and the letter (see blow) will be sent (in French) on your behalf.

To the OMVQ,
I am writing to you today to formally support the request for access to in-home euthanasia services in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region.
Currently, the regional veterinarian shortage and strict direct supervision requirements prevent our qualified Veterinary Technicians (TSA) from meeting an essential need for compassion and dignity. For an elderly dog at the end of its life, the stress of transport and spending their final moments in a sterile clinic environment, rather than surrounded by the comforts of home, represents avoidable suffering that goes against the fundamental principles of animal welfare.
As a citizen, I ask the Order to demonstrate regulatory flexibility by allowing the delegation of this act to duly trained technicians, without requiring the physical presence of a veterinarian on-site. Our companions deserve to pass away peacefully in their familiar environment, supported by competent and available professionals like the team at Vet & Cie and other qualified providers.
Thank you for taking this regional reality into consideration to ensure a respectful end-of-life experience for our pets.
Sincerely,
